Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure

On June 7, 2008 at the National Mall, walk with other GW staff, faculty, students, alumni and friends to support the fight against breast cancer and to acknowledge those who have survived, as well as those who have lost their fight.  To join GW Colonials for the Cure, click the above link or go to: http://www.nationalraceforthecure.org/teams.htm .

St. Mary’s Court

Want to volunteer more but can’t find the time?  Stay in the Foggy Bottom area and volunteer during your lunch hour. Spend time with the residents of St. Mary’s Court and meet other GW staff, all while giving back to the community.  Click the link above to learn more about St. Mary’s Court and sign-up to volunteer.

Red Scarf Project

The Orphan Foundation of America collects red (and other unisex-colored) scarves to send in Valentine's Day care packages to college students who have aged out of foster care.  The care packages are sources of encouragement for young people, who otherwise receive little or no mail. To read about GW’s contribution to last year’s Red Scarf Project, go to: http://www.gwu.edu/~bygeorge/jan08/scarves.html

Team in Training

Team in Training is the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's endurance training program.  It provides walkers, runners, cyclists and triathletes with the opportunity of being coached, the benefits of team camaraderie, and the prospect of travel with accommodations for a variety of endurance events around the world.  TNT is the #1 endurance training program in the world and the largest marathon training program in the country.

Greater DC Cares

Volunteer as frequently or infrequently as you like.  Just attend one of the hour-long orientations provided by DC Cares, and then receive weekly emails or monthly calendars, detailing upcoming volunteer opportunities.

GW's Office of Community Service Events

The Office of Community Service is dedicated to creating learning opportunities for students while striving to meet the unmet needs of the greater Washington, DC community. Unfortunately, the level of available student commitment does not always equal the enormous need in our community. Throughout the year there are many opportunities which would be greatly enhanced by the involvement of University Staff.  At certain times, during winter, spring, and summer breaks, there is an even greater need for involvement, as students are generally unavailable.  To learn more about OCS, visit their website or call a dedicated OCS staff member at (202) 994-5493.

If you know of an event that you would like to see posted, please let us know.  If you would like to serve as a contact to form teams for these walks or other upcoming events, we'd be happy to post your name and contact information on this page.  Call 202-994-0734 or email yourlife@gwu.edu
