Entry Deadline

May 29, 2009

Opening Day

Last Regular Season Game

Championship

Mid August

Entry Forms:

  • We will use a standard template provided from Office of Campus Recreation.
  • Complete teams must contain a minimum of 12 individuals affiliated with GW.  Individuals may also be added to team rosters throughout the season.  This minimum number is necessary in order to ensure that the league is not impacted by a significant number of forfeited games due to incomplete teams.
  • All current GW employees are eligible to play, meaning anyone receiving a paycheck from GW is eligible.  The goal of this league is to promote collegial, inter-divisional community among staff (as well as faculty and student employees).
  • This is a coed league so a minimum of two females will be required to play at all games.

Game Times:

  • Games will be played on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings.

Field is available for team practice.

  • The number of times a team plays per week will depend on the official number of teams we have by the Entry Deadline, May 29.
  • In putting together the schedule we will attempt to pay close attention to teams that have specific time slot requirements.
  • Please also note that all available time slots may not be used as this will depend on the number of teams signed up.

General Logistics:

  • Some essential official softball equipment will be available for use by teams, if needed.  If using a personal bat, it must be listed on the American Softball Association’s list of approved bats.
  • Uniforms are not required, but we encourage team spirit in the form of matching shirts.  As a referral, contact one of the officially licensed Vendors for team hats/shirts, including McMannes at 202 -333-0900 or Mac at 410-461-6227.
  • Official rules and regulations will be available prior to opening day, through the Office of Campus Recreation.
  • Officiating will be managed by an Umpire, provided by Office of Campus Recreation.
  • All participants must sign a standard GW Campus Recreation participant liability waiver in order to play.   Preferably these can be done in advance, or on site at game time.
  • The Vern Express - Throughout the softball season, The Vern Express , a free shuttle service connecting the Foggy Bottom and Mount Vernon Campuses, will operate with departures every 15 minutes from both campuses until 7pm on every weeknight, except Wednesdays.  Fortunately, due to the Wednesday evening “Films on The Vern” outdoor movie series, The Vern Express will offer extended service on Wednesdays, with departures every 30 minutes from each campus (:00 and :30 past the hour from Foggy Bottom and :15 and :45 past the hour from Mount Vernon) from 7:15pm to 11:15pm (in addition to the every 15 minute departures from both campuses through 7pm).  Teams and guests are invited to join us on the Mount Vernon Campus Quad for the free Films on The Vern series beginning at 8:30pm each Wednesday from July 8 through August 12.  For more information about The Vern Express and Films on The Vern go to the Mount Vernon Campus Life website at gwired.gwu.edu/mvcl
  • Parking – Due to GW’s campus plan with the neighbors of the Mount Vernon Campus, all who visit the campus are required to park on campus rather than on the streets surrounding the campus; this is strictly enforced by University Police.  On campus parking is available in the garage inside the Whitehaven Parkway entrance to the campus and in the lot inside the W Street entrance to the campus.   The garage is attended on weekdays from 7am to 10pm at a cost of $1.50/hour with a maximum of $10.00 (free of charge outside of these hours/days).  The metered lot requires $1.50 in quarters per hour with a maximum of 4 hours and the meters are enforced on weekdays from 7am to 7pm (free of charge outside of these hours/days). Those who pay for contract parking on the Foggy Bottom Campus are eligible to purchase a “shared campus” decal valid for the Mount Vernon Campus Garage for a one-time cost of $10 by visiting the Parking Services Office at 2211 H Street NW.
